“It was only yesterday that you outsiders to God’s ways had no idea of any of this, didn’t know the first thing about the way God works, hadn’t the faintest idea of Christ. You knew nothing of that rich history of God’s covenants and promises in Israel, hadn’t a clue about what God was doing in the world at large. Now because of Christ—dying that death, shedding that blood—you who were once out of it altogether are in on everything.” Ephesians 2:12-13
Perspective:
Have you ever been driving down the road and come across a person with a sign needing work or food? We all have. It is so easy to keep on driving because they either don’t look hungry or we assume someone else will help them. But the real question is, who is holding a sign in your life, and what does it say? Perhaps it says: struggling, lonely, tired, or forgotten in permanent marker. You haven’t seen them before? These words are written on the lives of people all around us. Everyone is looking for an answer; everyone is needing hope.
We were all there once. All of humanity has been in need of hope. Then, Jesus showed up, and it changed everything. It still does. The power of the cross changes the entire course of our lives. Though we were once on the outside, Christ enables us to be on the inside of all God is doing. So, to the person with the sign hanging around their neck, extend hope. It will change everything, and a history of prior failures will be transformed into a heritage of refined faith. And you, my friend, will have the privilege of seeing the power of the cross at work in the lives around you.
