“From the surrounding towns people went out on foot, running, and got there ahead of them. When Jesus arrived, he saw this huge crowd. At the sight of them, his heart broke—like sheep with no shepherd they were. He went right to work teaching them.” Mark 6:33-34
Perspective:
Imagine a child going to bed hungry night after night. The first thing that comes to mind is a distant country where poverty, famine, and disease run rampant. It has almost become so prevalent that we have lost sight of it as a need. Now, instead of thinking of another country, think about your city. Does that child live in your city too? What are we doing about it?
There is a connection between brokenness and action. If we never allow God to break our hearts for people who do not know him, how will we ever move forward to reach them? Jesus saw the people and was compelled to do something about it. However, it wasn’t out of obligation. He had the power to heal every person and solve every problem. Yet, it was out of heart of brokenness that He helped the people in need. Who is the crowd of people in your life? What are you doing to help them, feed them, lead them, disciple them, or love them? If you can’t identify a “crowd,” go to a place where there is a need and allow God to turn brokenness into action in your life.
