Scripture:
“God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.” 2 Peter 3:9 (MSG)
Perspective:
We have all waited on someone who is late. They are late to a meeting, dinner, or even your birthday celebration. It can be frustrating and annoying. The person you are waiting on has exceeded the grace period of being “fashionably late.” At that point, the clock becomes our constant companion and the passing seconds drag on like years.
In the same way we wait on people, we tend to wait on God. We contemplate God’s timetable. We ask questions that go unanswered. Most of the questions start with “why.” However, is it possible that God is waiting on us? When God seems absent, He is really bringing us to a point of readiness. Time can develop our lives more than fame, fortune, or opportunity. God knows the magnitude of the responsibility ahead of us. He doesn’t want to put us prematurely in the place of our destiny. In God’s grace, He waits on us, nudging us along, all the while we think we are waiting on Him. God is never late. Next time you are confused by God’s timetable, remember that He is giving you time to develop your character and your relationship with Him. Hold onto the promises of God; embrace time as a blessing!
