Scripture:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.” Isaiah 26:3-4 (ESV)
Perspective:
Chaos is inevitable. We live in a world where stock markets crash, countries revolt, unemployment skyrockets, and people lose their homes. External circumstances occur without our control or prior permission. We would like a written notice three months prior in order to adequately prepare for the emotional turmoil. However, we are rarely afforded that luxury.
When life seems out of control, God promises peace to those who focus their mind on Him. It is the kind of peace that comes when you have lost your job, your family member is ill, or the uncertainty of a situation is overwhelming. However, it doesn’t just come because you have a relationship with God. In order to walk in perfect peace, we have to retrain our mindset. We can no longer focus on the details of the situation as most important. We have to fix our minds on God, our powerful, mighty, and strong God. It requires us to take the details of our situation and offer them to God through prayer. You might have to do it every hour. Even when our finite minds think we know best, we have to give up our control to the Lord. When your mind is fixed on God, you will begin to trust Him in a greater capacity. The Lord is able to handle your situation. However, your ability to walk in confidence is directly related to your ability to trust God. Set your mind on God; He is big enough to handle anything.
