Scripture:

“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women.  It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously.” Micah 6:8

Perspective:

Have you ever had to read a complicated textbook, article, tax policy, or even furniture constructing directions?  It is easy to get confused in the wording and put the reading material down without getting anything from it.

God makes it simple.  He tells us how to live in order to be blessed.  We need to demonstrate justice, compassion, loyalty, love, and a reverence of God.  He basically wants us to keep the plain things the main things.  We don’t have to get bogged down in complicated language and theories.  God tells us how to live and requires us to demonstrate it with our lives.  In the course of our busy lives, it becomes difficult to incorporate every idea for self-improvement.  Before we know it, our simple lives become complicated.  Therefore, it is important that the main things in our lives don’t get pushed to the side.  Jesus said it simply in Matthew 22:37-39, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.'”  What are your main things?  Loving God, spending time with your family, or building friendships?  Take time to determine the top 3 or 5 main things in your life.  Put your time and effort into those areas.  Just make sure loving God is the main thing, and everything else will fall into place.
