Scripture:
“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 (NIV)
Perspective:
A trip to the mountains can leave you in awe. Their size can span thousands of feet high and wide. If you stand beside one and jump up and down, your tiny movement is not going to shake the mountain. Their mere size can be intimidating to even the most experienced climber.
Jesus knows that there will be mountains that come and shadow our lives. He does not deny their existence yet provides encouragement on how to overcome. Faith is necessary to overcome challenges. The key factor in the equation is not the size of the mountain but in whom we place our faith. When we connect ourselves to God through faith, mountains quickly lose size and proportion. The act of moving mountains no longer depends solely on me or you. It has little to do with our resolve and a lot to do with the God of the universe working in us. What mountains are you facing? Mountains usually represent seemingly impossible circumstances. They are obstacles that threaten our resolve. They may come in the form of rejection letters, cancer reports, job termination notices, debt, or looming divorce. The good news is that impossible doesn’t exist for God. Through Him, all things are possible, and He gives strength to overcome every obstacle. God can make mountains move.
