Scripture:

“Samuel took his flask of oil and anointed him, with his brothers standing around watching. The Spirit of God entered David like a rush of wind, God vitally empowering him for the rest of his life.” 1 Samuel 16:13

Perspective:

Have you ever talked with someone who knows the Lord and just thought that there was something different about them?  It is as if God was active in all the details of their life.  It wasn’t weird or unnatural, just different.  They had an unprecedented favor on their life.

As Samuel is performing the ceremony of anointing David as the future king, his brothers are watching, shocked.  They had probably picked on him as he was growing up, making him the brunt of their jokes.  Yet, Proverbs 16:7 says, “When God approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand.” When we take hold of God’s call on our lives, there is a favor that rests on us.  David couldn’t have imagined the significance of that moment.  God’s supernatural power came upon him to prepare him for the victories and battles yet to come.  In a similar way, when we embrace the call of God on our lives, we experience God’s favor and courage to walk in that call.  And, we must keep walking even when the promise of palaces and thrones seems like such a far distance from the shepherd’s field.
