If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg is a book about stepping out in faith.  I don’t know why it has taken me so long to read this book.  A while back, I did a post about Peter walking on water called “Getting Out of the Boat.” This book is all about Peter walking on water!  Through challenging you to let go of your comfort zone, Ortberg does a terrific job of articulating Peter’s story of responding to Jesus. Jesus said, “Come.” Peter responds by stepping out.  This is the question: are we willing to be the one person to get out of the boat even though there are 11 other people still holding on to comfort?  I was so challenged in my faith and ability to trust God.  It is a must read!

Here are a couple quotes from the book:

“Never try to have more faith – just get to know God better.  And because God is faithful, the better you know him, the more you’ll trust him.” (p. 81)

“If you want to walk on water, you have to be willing to get your feet wet first.  Then you discover it is worth the risk.” (p. 79)

“If I’m walking closely with God, if I have the sense of God being with me, I find that problems lose their ability to damage my spirit.” (p. 143)

“God does some of his best work in caves. The cave is where God resurrects dead things.” (p. 151)

We all need to be challenged to stop being comfortable in our boats and start stepping out in faith. This book is a win!
