[dropcaps style=’square’]W[/dropcaps]hen you start reading a new book, the first chapter is when the story is just getting started. We can take a peek at the last chapter before we get there, but that can ruin the excitement of the story. Yet sometimes along the way of life, we can be living chapter 3 or 4 of our story and find someone else who is writing their chapter 16.
The comparison of seeing someone else further down the road in their story can either encourage or discourage us. On one hand, it could encourage you, because you realize that things that seem impossible are actually possible. Yet, it can be discouraging if you are comparing your place in life to their place in life. You don’t know what it took for them to get to chapter 16 in their story. People are rarely an overnight success. They have experienced hidden years when they weren’t sure if they were going to make it. When you see someone writing chapter 16 in their story, know that it took time to get there. Don’t let it stop you from living your own story today. Someday, maybe years from now, you will look up and realize that you are in midst of writing chapter 16 in your story too.
Every great story has to go through different chapters. If you are just trying to get to the end of the book, you miss some of the beauty of the story along the way. Give yourself permission to live your chapter instead of trying to skip ahead to the end of the book.
Great stories take time to live; the best stories have multiple twists and turns.
So, if you are in midst of an unexpected season, just turn the page and keep writing.
