seen better days

[dropcaps style= ‘square’]A[/dropcaps]s the snow sits quietly on the ground, the little birds sing a song back and forth to one another. I can’t help but smile at the contrast. The singing birds remind me of fresh flowers and green grass: Spring. Yet, the world around me doesn’t resemble anything close to springtime. As the sun tucks itself behind the clouds for the evening, I can still hear them singing. Shouldn’t the snow and cold silence their singing? Shouldn’t the reality of winter change their song? Yet, their melody is a reminder of hope. It reminds us that sometimes we have to believe in the next season that will come even before there is evidence.

Seasons

In our lives, sometimes we can get stuck in a season that seems never ending. Yet, as God brings changes externally to the seasons, He also brings change to the seasons of our lives. What you are currently experiencing is paving the way for the next season. The snow on the ground will water the grass and help it turn green as Spring approaches. In the same way, the fabric of this current season in our lives will bring fruitfulness in the next season if we allow God to do His work in us.

There is something quiet and still about winter. Some might say that it is lifeless.  Maybe the earth is waiting in anticipation for the next season. Maybe that is why the birds keep singing and the trees keep swaying. They have not found despair in the snow covered branches and cold mornings. They just keep singing a new song.

The seasons will change. Sometimes we reach so hard for the next season that we miss our current season all together. While nothing may be changing that is visible, keep singing. Keep thanking God for what He is doing. Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) says, “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” Faith is placing our confidence in God instead of the tangibility of our circumstances. When the next season comes, you will be so thankful that you didn’t waste these moments wishing for a different day. Instead of wishing your season away, pray and be obedient during your current season. God’s faithfulness does not depend on the presence of one season. It is constant.  Like the birds singing in the midst of winter, may you wake up tomorrow singing a new song, one not based on your circumstances but based on the unchanging One.

It’s time to start singing even in the dead of winter.

It’s time to start believing God even when we can’t see.
