Scriptures:

“We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next.” Romans 5:3-4

Perspective:

Think back to the last time someone encouraged you.  They told you that you were doing a great job at work, even though your job was on the line.  Maybe they told you that you were making a difference in peoples’ lives, even though you couldn’t see it.  Their encouragement helped you keep going.  The situation didn’t change; an outside perspective just encouraged you.

When we praise God in the midst of our struggle, we are changing our perspective to make God the  focus of our lives.  It becomes more about God and less about the momentary struggle with our job, family, or friends.  Praising God encourages our hearts that God is still present.  God cares more about our character than our comfort.  In a culture where comfort is the top priority, God realizes that our character is the thing that will carry us through the trials over the course of our lives.  Whatever you are going through today, remember that God is building something deep within your life.  The current struggle is preparing you for whatever God will do next.  Praise Him no matter the circumstances!
