Scripture:
“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego walked out of the fire. All the important people, the government leaders and king’s counselors, gathered around to examine them and discovered that the fire hadn’t so much as touched the three men—not a hair singed, not a scorch mark on their clothes, not even the smell of fire on them! Nebuchadnezzar said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel and rescued his servants who trusted in him!” Daniel 3:26-28
Perspective:
Have you ever touched a hot stove? Either it was by accident or you just didn’t believe your mom. How bad could it hurt? You get just a little too close. The heat of the fire burns your hand. Then, you painfully remember the admonishing words of your mother, “Don’t touch the stove. It’s hot.”
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were being tested; they were thrown into the fire for standing for their faith. If they weren’t going to deny God, there was no other option. Sometimes, God allows us to go through tests to strengthen our faith. God wants to walk with us through the fire to the other side. Nevertheless, we would prefer to skip it all together. We want the refined faith without the fire. However, God knows the refining power of walking through the fire. God will never leave you in the midst of the test. Most testimonies come from a test. The three men thrown into the fire knew God would be with them no matter the outcome. The impossibility of their situation produced a clear testimony of God’s power. No matter what you are facing, rest assured that you will walk through the fire, but the fire won’t consume you. God will pull you through it and strengthen your faith.
