Scripture:
“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25
Perspective:
Have you ever built a fort or a birdhouse? As you go through the process of building it, you use a hammer, nails, glue, wood, and a saw. In order to insure that it withstands time and the seasons, you have to build it using the right materials. If you don’t use the right materials, you are always trying to fix the broken pieces.
God calls us to build our lives on Him. His Word cannot just be an addition to our lives but rather the very foundation. We like to pick and choose with God, like a fast food drive-thru. We want some of the blessing and peace, but we ask God to leave off the suffering and endurance. However, when we build our lives on God’s Word, we build a life that can withstand the financial meltdowns, the physical ailments, and the relationship challenges. Although these challenges will come, a life built on God will not waver in conviction or commitment during those times. What are you building your life on? Don’t let God be an add-on in your life. Resolve to build your life with God at the center.
