Scripture:

“By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.” Philippians 3:14-16

Perspective:

A new year tends to be celebrated with New Year’s resolutions.  We have all made New Year’s resolutions at one point or another.  After the months drag on, it becomes difficult to achieve the undefined resolutions such as get fit, lose weight, or be a better person.  There is so much focus on improving the external.

What if we chose to focus on internal issues, such as the condition of our heart, our mind, and our motives?  What if we chose to focus on God?  As you enter the new year, resolve to run toward God as if your life depended upon it.  Although other goals would seem to be more tangible, succeeding at your relationship with God is the most significant thing you can do this year.  You have the opportunity to get on the right track and stay on it.  However, it is going to take commitment.  If twelve months seems like too large of a commitment, commit the next month to God.  Take extra time to spend with Him and see what He does in your life.  You will be surprised that when you start the year running after God, the following eleven months are easier to commit to Him.  Regardless of your past commitment to your relationship with God, it’s a new year, and God can transform your life into a new you.
