Scripture:
“Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked.” 1 Chronicles 4:10 (ESV)
Perspective:
Have you ever prayed for something and God answered? He provided you with the job to provide for your family. He brought resolution to a conflict with a family member. Or, maybe He blessed you in another way.
In the writing of 1 Chronicles 4, the writer is detailing the geneology of Judah’s descendants. In the middle of the chapter, Jabez enters the picture. In a list of names, something so significant stood out about Jabez that the writer had to add something besides just his name. Jabez prayed a bold prayer that changed his life and probably the people around him. We don’t exactly know what happened except that God gave him what he asked. His story was probably passed down from generation to generation. Did you hear about what God did for Jabez? It’s more than repeating a prayer that is in the Bible or following a formula. Jabez is simply an example of what God can do when we boldly pray. As you are facing your life, are you willing to ask God for greater blessings and more influence, even if it requires more from you? Blessing and influence always come with greater responsibility. So, pray a bold prayer and step out in courage as God brings greater blessing and influence into your life.
