Scripture:

“Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.” Galatians 3:23-26 (ESV)

Perspective:

Have you ever won something, maybe a big game, a contest, or a track meet? You won but it can almost seem surreal.  You keep looking for the fine print wondering if you really did win.  People can tell you all day that you won, but until you recognize the accomplishment and believe it, you won’t be able to embrace the victory.

Many times life can feel like a competition.  We are striving for the approval of our friends, family, parents, and even God. Yet when we look to God, He says, “You are a winner.” We are adopted into God’s family.  Yet, we still go around living like we are losing.  We think that if someday we get our act together, God will love us, and we will be His child.  If we pray more, God will love us more.  If we go feed the hungry, God will help us more.  The work that was finished on the cross, we keep trying to complete ourselves.  Reading the Bible, praying, and serving others flows out of a love for God, not the other way around.  We can never earn God’s affection or attention.  He sees you; He loves you. When He looks at you, God sees a winner. He sees one person that He loves so much that He gave His son.  You were bought with the price of Jesus’ blood. So, let go of the doubt, defeat, and discouragement.  Stop hanging your head in defeat.  Refuse to see yourself as only hired help.  See yourself through God’s eyes, and God sees His child.
