Scripture:
“Our prayers for you are always spilling over into thanksgivings. We can’t quit thanking God our Father and Jesus our Messiah for you! We keep getting reports on your steady faith in Christ, our Jesus, and the love you continuously extend to all Christians. The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope.” Colossians 1: 3-5 (MSG)
Perspective:
Paul was writing a letter to the Colossians, and his heart was overwhelmed with gratitude for the people, their faith, and their love displayed to others. When Paul started praying for the people, his prayers were flooded by gratitude. Instead of listing out all of his requests for the people, he focused on how thankful he was for them. It sent the tone for his conversation with the Colossians through his letter, but it also was reflective of how Paul used every opportunity to find the good.
What things in your life can you not stop thanking God? A heart of gratitude is always spilling over into every area of our lives. We can’t be thankful for the tangible things in our lives without being thankful for the job, opportunity, or a friend who introduced us to someone who knew about the job. We can’t be thankful for the place we live without being thankful for all the other things that enabled us to live there. Gratitude is circular. The more we give thanks, the more we see things in our lives for which we can thank God. There is a certain grace that floods our lives when gratitude is leading the way. Let thanksgiving set the tone for your day.
