Scripture:

“Later there was a repeat performance. The Philistines came up again and deployed their troops in the Rephaim Valley. David again prayed to God.

This time God said, ‘Don’t attack them head-on. Instead, circle around behind them and ambush them from the grove of sacred trees. When you hear the sound of shuffling in the trees, get ready to move out. It’s a signal that God is going ahead of you to smash the Philistine camp.’

David did exactly what God told him. He routed the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.” 2 Samuel 5:22-25 (MSG)

Perspective:

David had the exact same experience with the Philistines as he had previously. They were coming to attack the Israelites, and David had a choice. Instead of taking it into his own hands, David placed the problem before God. God’s response to David was the same: fight the Philistines. However, he also include a different strategy. David’s army was to go wait in the trees before attacking the Philistines from behind. So, David put this strategy to the test and had a great victory.

Sometimes we have to shift our strategy to win. However, we have to be dialed into the Source in order to know when to change our strategy. God doesn’t want his direction for you to be a guessing game. He wants to show you the way to go. When you take time to ask Him, don’t be surprised to find that he changes the strategy to produce the same outcome you have had before. God wants to give you victory in your life, but there are usually multiple ways to accomplish the victory. When it looks a little different than you expected, trust that the God who directs you through the forest will bring you to the other side with a great victory.
