“God wasn’t attracted to you and didn’t choose you because you were big and important—the fact is, there was almost nothing to you. He did it out of sheer love, keeping the promise he made to your ancestors. God stepped in and mightily bought you back out of that world of slavery, freed you from the iron grip of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know this: God, your God, is God indeed, a God you can depend upon. He keeps his covenant of loyal love with those who love him and observe his commandments for a thousand generations.” Deuteronomy 7:9 (MSG)

Moses was giving instructions from God to the Israelites on how they were to live as they were to take possession of the Promised Land. While the instructions could have felt weighty, Moses reminded them that God was the one who rescued the people. He was their answer in midst of slavery in Egypt. He was the one who brought deliverance. God was the one who made his mark by showing his dependability. When the people faced the Red Sea, it was God that made a way and the people didn’t drown. It wasn’t based on the what the people could do; it was based on what God would do.

Do you ever wonder if you had more recognition, money, or talent that God would take notice of you more? When we start to think in this mindset, we translate God’s view of ourselves to our human experience. We tend to take notice of people who are noteworthy or have financial resources. But, God says that it wasn’t because of what we have that He walked into our lives. It was based on who He is not what we could do. You don’t have to be more, have more, or want more for God to notice you. He already sees you, and His dependability is not based on our dependability either. When you are fickle, He is faithful, and we can all be thankful for this truth!
