Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah. Hannah was not able to have children, and it became a point of family dissension. While Elkanah would try to console Hannah, Hannah’s sadness and disappointment over her lack of children overshadowed her life. On their yearly journey to the Tabernacle to worship God, Hannah snuck away to pray. Her grief over the situation overwhelmed her to the point she was mistaken to be drunk. A Life Positioned Toward God

Fear has a way of causing us to make decisions that don’t honor God. What are you holding onto in fear that God needs you to lay down? You may be experiencing the fear of a job transition or feeling like you will forever be alone. You may have fear from a health diagnosis, a difficult financial situation, or the loss of a friendship. When we face fear, we have to make sure that we are still being obedient to the mission to which God has called us. We can’t hold onto fear and situations so tightly that God has to pry our fingers open to remove them from our lives.

God’s Uncoincidental work

Taking a leap of faith is not always easy. Transitioning between seasons of life can cause us to wonder if God is there. However, when God is directing our lives, nothing is coincidental. The timing of events in our lives may seem like it “just so happened” all the while God was setting the stage. Saul had no idea how his life would change when they decided to go see Samuel about their lost donkeys, but God did. Like Saul, God is able to prompt us to make that phone call, connect with someone, or journey somewhere at just the right time. God’s fingerprints over our situations and lives gives us insight into how He works….

When The Answer Comes

Hannah had previously come into the house of God, burdened and asking God for a specific request to bare a child. When she was given that child later that year, she intentionally did not forget the promises she made God when initially presenting her request. This child would be a testimony of God’s faithfulness to respond to the cries of His people. Even in his name, the child served as a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness and answer to prayer…
