The Choice to Follow

Jesus looked at Peter and told him to follow him no matter what anyone else was doing. Peter would go on to be a pillar in the church, and many would would come to know Christ through him. There would have been a missing piece if Peter had refused to do what God had called him to do because he was worried about John. God had his own plans for John. While they were complimentary in their purpose of telling others about Christ, the experience of theses two men were different. Both had to choose to follow God in obedience no matter where He would lead them…

God’s Uncoincidental work

Taking a leap of faith is not always easy. Transitioning between seasons of life can cause us to wonder if God is there. However, when God is directing our lives, nothing is coincidental. The timing of events in our lives may seem like it “just so happened” all the while God was setting the stage. Saul had no idea how his life would change when they decided to go see Samuel about their lost donkeys, but God did. Like Saul, God is able to prompt us to make that phone call, connect with someone, or journey somewhere at just the right time. God’s fingerprints over our situations and lives gives us insight into how He works….

Delighting in the Here and Now

We were sitting around the table on a Friday- waiting. Waiting for someone to come so one person could go on an adventure. Waiting for someone else to carry on with their day. The clock seemed to slowly make its way around, minute by minute. Waiting characterizes so much of our everyday lives. I will be the first to admit. I don’t always wait well. Long lines at a restaurant, traffic that slows you down, or people running late to meetings can be highly inconvenient. We are forced to learn to wait in the everyday moments of our lives…

God’s Answer for God’s Promise

God sent Abram, later known as Abraham, a promise about his future. In Genesis 13, God had already promised Abraham the land as his inheritance as far as he could see. God said, “Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted! Go and walk through the land in every direction, for I am giving it to you” (Genesis 13:14-17 NLT). However, Abraham’s circumstances hadn’t changed. While Abraham could walk through the land, Abraham knew that God’s blessing would be short-lived if he had no one as an heir…

Grace that Changes Our Lives

“The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away. Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God! In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!…
